Happy 4th of July! At least no one died…

So last night we did the 4th of July thing. We invited all of our friends together for some social interactions an a lil bit of fireworks. As with every year, someone nearly (or actually) goes to the hospital, gets burned, nearly loses an eye, burns their hair, so drunk they pass out and crack their head open, pass out and just about break their nose.. you know.. little things.
Well this year was not to be out-done, after lighting the 1st round of artillery shells, two at a time mind you, one is just not manly enough right? The first shot causes one to go up as expected, but somewhere something went wrong. Next thing you know there is a uncontrollable fire ball careening down the street and exploding somewhere just beyond 20 feet or so behind me. Now I did not get to witness this directly, as I was taking photos of the girls and their morning glories. After this, I no longer want to be down by the street, where the explosions are going to be happening. Now, with my view heavily obscured, I observe the night.
Several minutes later, and I am being generous here, a strand of 500 or so of black cats get accidentally lit, and subsequently dropped on our entire arsenal of unused fireworks. So needles to say people were running everywhere. I opened the door to the house, which I was sitting by at this point, so that people could run inside to get away from what surly was going to be am explosion of flying, flaming debris that just might look like what you might picture Armageddon to be like. Luckily no one is hurt… not hurt seriously anyways. One of the girls thought about the situation a wee bit to long before deciding to not stand right over the firework doom machine.
The rest of the night was less eventful, aside from a few low altitude artillery shells (yes, with some firing horizontally) in which no one was near the explosion areas. Oh, and one person almost getting hit in the face with a roman candle report, aka hand held fire ball dispenser.
I love these social gatherings but reel from the thought of what mishaps might occur that year. New years is not very far away, I hope this one doesn’t get any worse.
